It was an arrangement by Joe Garland based on a pre-existing melody. The main theme, featuring repeated arpeggios rhythmically displaced, previously appeared under the title of Tar Paper Stomp credited to jazz trumpeter and bandleader Wingy Manone. • The tune was finally sold in 1939 to Glenn Miller and it became the best-selling swing instrumental. His In the Mood also appeared in Sun Valley Serenade, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Simpsons or Doctor Who.
