Parsha in 60 Seconds Presents The Kippah • Shalom and welcome to Jewish Traditions in 60 seconds • Today we will look at the Kippah • The Kippah also known as the Yamaca is the small hat worn by many types of Jewish people worldwide. It is worn out of respect for God. The rules of how and when to wear Kippah are highly debated in Jewish Law. • Jewish Rabbinical law dictates that a man is required to cover his head during prayer. In the Middle Ages a larger Kippah meant you were more religious. Kippahs were used as a way to discriminate between Jews and Non-Jews. • Today, the kippah have become a commodity and can be found representing sports teams, cartoon characters, and political figures. Woman and babies have also begun wearing the Kippah. • The only reference we have in Torah of head coverings are that of Turbans or mourners rags. The high priests wore a Turban and many Royal figures, also many outside of Judaism wore turbans. • Some argue that, many of these Jewish traditions came as an Identity crisis due to attempt of survival as a people outside of Israel. As a result, Jews have put more faith in their traditions and legalism than in the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob. • Wearing a Kippah is fun and it is a great way to identify with today's Jewish communities but remember that the Kippah was originally worn to remind us of who God is. • And that is The Kippah in 60 seconds. • Subscribe today and become a fan •   / parshain60
