For a football player, leg strength is essential for skills ranging from running the ball to making a block to executing a proper tackle. • What many players and coaches may not realize is that it is just as important to work each leg individually as it is to work them as a whole. • Single leg strength gives athletes the ability to accelerate and decelerate out of their hips, which is critical to on-field performance. • Starting in proper athletic position and keeping eyes forward, have the player jump on one leg and sink his weight into the hip instead of the knee while landing. Produce force out of the landing and jump again, trying to land in the same spot every time. • Have the player do three sets of five on each side, alternating legs after each set.
