Moringa: A natural cattle milk enhancer • Livestock contributes about 53% in the national agricultural value addition, while, 11.4% in GDP. Nearly 8 million families are involved in livestock raising deriving more than 35% income from livestock production activities (Economic Survey of Pakistan, 2016-17). The availability of green fodder is decreasing due to reduction in cultivatable area (Sarwar et al. 2002). This shortage can be overcome by trees and browse species for example, poplar and willow, Acacia albida, Prosopis, Gleditsia, Leucaena leucocephala, Ziziphus jujuba, Morus alba, Terminalia arjuna, and Moringa oleifera (Graham and Dalmeny, 1998). Tree species that can provide good-quality fodder especially in dry periods when no other fodder is available. • Increases daily weight gain • Increases milk production upto 35% • Increases fertility of bulls • Increases digestion in goats and bulls • Cuttings can be obtained in an year 6-8 (as fodder) • Seed cake can be used in Animal feed • Moringa is one of the Galactagogues. These are natural herbs those stimulate breast milk production • Moringa lowers serum cholesterol concentration in goats, cows and bulls (Astuti et al., 2011; Khalel et al. 2014). Moringa leaves contain 0.5 – 1% caffeoylquinic acids. Caffeoylquinic acids are antioxidants considered to be choleretic (bile increasing which helps to digest dietary fats), hepatoprotective (effective against hepatitis and other liver diseases), cholesterol-reducing, and diuretic (Suresh, 2012).
