Matanuska Glacier is 27 miles long by 4 miles wide and we our hiking it with our kids. The head is located in Sutton, Alaska. Matanuska is the largest glacier accessible by car. Hiking with kids can be done, but it isn't easy! We decided to hike Matanuska at the last minute, so the tours were all sold out. This glacier does have self guided tours, so we decided to tackle it on our own. The glacier has orange cones spaced out marking a safe trail for the hikers. Crampons and microspikes (shoes with spikes) would of made a big difference. If you do decide to do the self guided, you must completely explain to your child how dangerous it is to go off trail. • In the end, we are still so glad we did it and was such an unforgettable adventure. With global warming, we are not sure how much longer these things will be around. I highly recommend Matanuska Glacier with or without kids. It is an Alaskan must do! • #MatanuskaGlacier #GlacierWithKids #GlacierHike • Matanuska Glacier • 66500 S Glacier Park Rd. • Sutton, Alaska 99674 • To hang out with us some more.
