US: SpaceX launched another test flight of its massive Starship rocket from Texas. Unlike the previous flight, which successfully caught the booster mid-air using giant mechanical arms, this time the booster was intentionally directed to splash down in the Gulf of Mexico after a call-off of the catch procedure four minutes into the flight. The decision to cancel the booster recovery came for unspecified reasons, according to SpaceX spokesman Dan Huot, though he did not clarify what exactly went wrong. While the booster did not return to the launch site, the Starship spacecraft itself completed an hourlong demo, soaring across the Gulf of Mexico on a near-orbital path similar to its October test flight. The spacecraft completed a controlled but destructive descent into the Indian Ocean, marking another important test for the rocket that SpaceX and NASA plan to use for missions to the moon and Mars. This test flight featured several new objectives, including igniting one of Starship's engines in space, a key maneuver for returning from orbit. Additionally, thermal protection experiments were conducted, with some areas of the spacecraft stripped of heat tiles to test the effectiveness of catch mechanisms for future flights. SpaceX also made adjustments to the flight path and the timing of the launch, with the mission taking place in the late afternoon to ensure daylight for observing the spacecraft’s descent. The launch also drew attention from President-elect Donald Trump, who flew in to witness the event, further solidifying his relationship with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. NASA continues to fund SpaceX's efforts, with a more than $4 billion contract to land astronauts on the moon via Starship for back-to-back missions later this decade. This flight marks the sixth fully assembled Starship launch since 2023. While the previous three flights ended in explosions, SpaceX remains focused on its goal of creating a fully reusable and recyclable spacecraft to reduce costs and accelerate human exploration of the moon, Mars, and beyond. • #SpaceX #Starship #ElonMusk #NASA #RocketLaunch #BoosterCatch #IndianOceanSplashdown #MoonMission #MarsMission #NASAContract #SpaceExploration #TrumpVisit #SpaceTech #ReusableRockets #SpaceXLaunch #SpaceFlight #elonmusk #musk #spacex #tesla • Stay updated with the latest breaking news and insightful analysis by subscribing to India Today Global. • Follow us on Twitter: https://x.com/ITGGlobal • Follow us on Instagram:   / indiatodayglobal   • Follow us on Website: https://www.indiatoday.in/global • Watch related videos: • COP29 Baku: What Is Climate Finance? | What’s New At COP29? | India Today Global    • COP29 Baku: What Is Climate Finance? ...   • Xi Jinping Calls China-U.S. Relations 'Most Important Bilateral Relationship', Sends Mixed Signals •    • Xi Jinping Calls China-U.S. Relations...   • COP29 Baku: Donald Trump's Long Shadow | Key Players, What Do They Want?    • COP29 Baku: Donald Trump's Long Shado...   • Donald Trump: Republican, Democrat, Or Just An Opportunist? | India Today Global    • Donald Trump: Republican, Democrat, O...   • Who Are The Republicans: The Republican Party And Its Many Factions | India Today Global    • The Republican Party: Its Evolution A...
