The Hejaz Railway was a significant infrastructure project undertaken by the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century. • This Project was the dream of Abdulhamid II, who aimed to establish a convenient and efficient way for Muslims to make the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca in the Hejaz, a region in the west of today’s Saudi Arabia. The train line would reduce the long and arduous journey of the pilgrims from Damascus to Mecca to only a few days. • Construction began in September 1900 and was primarily funded by donations from Muslims worldwide, with contributions from the Ottoman state budget. German and Turkish engineers oversaw the construction, with local workers recruited along the route. • Completion and Operation • The railway was officially opened on September 1, 19084. It ran from Damascus to Medina, covering 1,300 kilometers. The line was a narrow-gauge railway with a track gauge of 1,050 mm (3 ft 5+11⁄32 in)1. • By 1912, it was transporting 30,000 pilgrims annually, increasing to 300,000 by 19144. • • The railway's expansion to Mecca was halted due to the outbreak of World War. • The collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the independence of nations along the route led to the end of the Hejaz Railway as a unified system. • • The Hejaz Railway stands as a testament to early 20th-century engineering and the power of pan-Islamic cooperation in funding and constructing a major transportation project. • • #shorts • #islam • #muslim • #islamicvideos • #quran • #hadith • #sunnahlifestyle • #islamicknowledge • #islamicreminders • #islamicteachings • #islamichistory • #islaminspiration • #islamforall
