Similarities Between Slovak and Croatian

In this episode, we compare two Slavic languages, Slovak and Croatian, with Betka (Slovak speaker) and Marko (Croatian speaker) competing against one another with a list of words and sentences. Slovak is the official language of Slovakia, and is also native to the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and a portion of western Ukraine. The Slovak language is very closely related to the other West Slavic languages, primarily to Czech and Polish, and to a lesser extent Slovak has been influenced by German, Latin, and Hungarian, so we aim to find out how much of a connection Slovak has to Croatian. Croatian (hrvatski), the standardized variety of the Serbo-Croatian language, is the official language of Croatia. In addition, it is spoken widely in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and holds official status in the Serbian province of Vojvodina.
