My father had a very humble upbringing in West Virginia. The son of a coal-miner, grandson of a Baptist minister, he lost his mother when he was only 15 days old. He and his brothers and sister grew up in Edmond, just a few miles from Ansted, where many Skaggs descendants still live today. • Near the end of his life, Dad took me and my brothers all around the area of his childhood and I learned so many things about him. If your parents are still around and you have a good relationship with them, I highly recommend that you take them back home and let them to tell you everything they remember.
