This Alesis MicroVerb II review takes a closer look at the Alesis effects and the Alesis reverb unit. It is a great option for small studios, at home studios and performance. • Alesis is a well-known manufacturer and the MicroVerb is a well-known product line. It is designed to deliver easy to use effects and great sound. One of the biggest reasons the Alesis reverb unit has remained popular is because of its simplicity. • What You Get. • With the Alesis MicroVerb II, the name of the game is eas-of-use. It features a number of great sounding presets that cover small, medium and large rooms, as well as a few gated reverbs for classic 80s reverb tones. Because the unit only has 4 knobs, it's super easy to dial in exactly the sound you're looking for quickly and easily. • Alesis is known for delivering superb audio quality which users have come to expect from all the processors in the line. When it comes to Alesis effects it is the range of effects and the simplicity in which they can be used which really adds to the experience. • The unit also runs on solid-souding 18-bit converters. This unusual resolution is part of what gives these classic Alesis units their unique sound character. • The Specs. • • While the unit isn't exactly feature-heavy, the reverbs sound great and very distinctive. If you're a fan of records from the 80s and 90s, this is a perfect reverb for getting those sounds in a small and easy-to-use package. 2 ¼ inch inputs and 2 ¼ inch outputs are located with easy access. • What We Liked. • • If we had to pinpoint one thing that really impressed us about the Alesis MicroVerb it would have to be the ease of use. Set up was simple and we were able to get right to work messing with the reverbs. It delivered great audio across the board and gave us enough presets to get really creative. • It is a great little machine that can amp up your creativity whether you are a producer or a musician. This 1/3-rack piece of equipment found a home in our studio and it might be just what you need in your studio as well. • If you are looking for an affordable piece of equipment that delivers as promised this is the option you have been looking for. We tested it out on backup vocals, lead vocals and some instruments and we were pretty impressed by the sound delivery that we got out of it. • We especially loved the Large 4 preset - it creates a massive 20-second decay with a hint of echo in it that was right at home on strings, pads and ambient elements. • VS the Plugins. • • We do not want to mislead anyone so in all fairness there is likely nothing that this model can do that a good plugin cannot but the fact is if you are purist and you like your equipment on a rack by your side when you are mixing, than the plugin is just no match. • Music technology has evolved by leaps and bounds over the last couple of decades but there are quite a few diehards that like the challenge of hands on equipment for editing, recording and improving. We are the die hard fans of less tech and more doing and if you are, you will like this piece of semi-retro equipment hanging around the studio and bringing some “wow” factor to your music. • Overall. • This is a cost effective tool that you want in your studio. The price point is great and the value is there. Before you decide that a plug in is just “easier” give this a try. You may be surprised by how having something sitting on the rack really does motivate you to get real creative. • We loved it and we think you will too.
