I Apologize (Hoffman-Goodhart-Nelson) by Billy Eckstine, orchestra conducted by Pete Rugolo • Mister B’s 4½ decade recording career began with his early-1940s stint as vocalist with the Earl Hines band, followed by leadership of his own highly-regarded big band during the mid-40s, and finally the signing with MGM Records as a solo performer late in the decade. One of his two million-selling hits for the label during the early 1950s (see also “My Foolish Heart” 1950), “I Apologize” became his signature tune. Beautifully arranged by Pete Rugolo, the vintage ballad had first been recorded twenty years earlier by such artists as Bing Crosby, Kate Smith, Ben Bernie, The Dorsey Brothers, Nat Shilkret and Phil Spitalny. • THE 1951 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs that made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1951 (some were recorded in 1950). . • ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • The three* MusicProf channels are home to The HITS ARCHIVES, YouTube’s most comprehensive collection of U.S. ‘popular music’ recordings from 1925 thru 1975.
