(Able Seaman John Hartnell 1820 - January 4, 1846) Died seven months into the Franklin Expedition from complications of lead poisoning from canned foods ironically brought on board to keep the sailors alive. Strangely, Hartnell was found to have been autopsied at the time of his death, evidenced by a long incision from his chest to his abdomen and internal organs that were carelessly jumbled inside him. His 1984 exhumation was witnessed by one of his descendants Brian Spenceley. • Hartnell's epitaph reads, Thus sayeth the Lord of hosts, consider your ways . • John Hartnell 2016.
