Some cars make an impact when they are first unveiled to the world. One such car was the Mercedes-Benz SLK with its Vario fold back in 1996. Folding hard tops had been seen decades earlier but on larger cars and had not been widely accepted, most manufacturers had stuck with a lighter weight soft top design.
