Lausanne’s metro line 2 opened in its current form in 2008. However, its predecessors were a funicular railway that opener in 1878 that was later converted to a rack railway in the 1950s. Since the year 200 the rack railway was already called “metro line 2” and was only converted to the present rubber-tires metro in order to be extended on further outskirts of the city.
