Stu Harrison of Merriam Pianos guides us through an overview from Roland’s FP10, Casio PX-160, and Yamaha’s P45. Although these don’t represent all models in the marketplace in this range, these are the pianos that we felt were deserving of a recommendation. • Thanks for joining us for this comprehensive round-up of these fan favourites, and be sure to check out the individual reviews to most of them here on the channel as well. • If it’s the first time to the channel, please be sure to subscribe, and enjoy the video! • • Roland FP10: • For customers willing to sacrifice several other niceties and features to get the very best action and piano tone in this price range, the FP-10 is your machine. The pro’s are clear: a triple-sensor professional action with escapement that’s identical to what you get in Roland’s $2000. You also get their Supernatural piano engine which syncs through a built-in Bluetooth radio with their Piano Designer app so you can adjust the piano tone with extreme precision on a mobile device. And a build quality which isn’t sacrificed just because of price. • The cons? No dedicated audio output (headphone jack can be used if needed to send to a stereo / amp), no recording, very few tones, no triple pedal option, and a cheap sustain pedal (do yourself a huge favour and upgrade to the DP10 sustain pedal). • If you want all those shortcomings resolved, well...that’s why there’s an FP30. For those who don’t need those features, The FP-10 is the quality standard for this price range. Period. • Yamaha P45: • Yamaha has always been known for their quality products, and the P45 is an easy-to-use, light-weight instrument with a crisp piano tone and very respectable e-piano options as well. The pros are it’s portability and the quality sounds. The drawbacks - particularly when compared to the FP10, would be the GHS action (dual vs triple sensor, no escapement, no textured keys), and a lack of Bluetooth connectivity. • At the end of the day, players selecting between these two will likely default to their preferred feel and piano tone, which I’m sure the Yamaha will have its fair share of takers. • • Casio PX-160: • This whole category of the $500 USD digital pianos with 88 weighted notes was sparked by the Casio Privia line. Expectations were low for this price point; prior to this model arriving, textured keys, escapement, triple sensors, multi-dimensional speakers, integrated stand, and triple pedal options were unheard of much under $1000. • That all changed with the PX-160, which quickly spurred Yamaha and Roland to respond with updates to their lower price ranges (in the case of Roland, its first ever 88-note product at this price range). • Compared with the newer entries, the PX-160 is certainly ready for an update, which its getting in the form of the PX-S1000, but there are still available in 2020 and as an all-in-one unit for a hobbyist player who wants the three pedals and needs the budget met, it’s still a solid choice and one we are still very comfortable to recommend. • Connect with Merriam Music: • ● Website ▸ https://www.merriammusic.com/ • ● Contact Us ▸ https://www.merriammusic.com/contact/ • ● Instagram ▸   / merriammusic   • ● Facebook ▸   / merriammusic   • ● Twitter ▸   / merriammusicinc
