Kim Helweg – Lyman Concerto for Accordion and Strings (World Premiere) • 00:08 - Adagio con le onde vibranti • 03:41 - Moderato condensato meditativo • 07:14 - Scherzo-Finale • Written to Miloš Katanić with the support from The Danish Arts Foundation • This concerto was composed in March and April 2019 especially for Milos Katanic. Like all other new pieces by me, this composition is based on quantum information. The name Lyman refers to the American physicist Theodore Lyman who discovered the lines of the ultraviolet spectrum of electrically excited hydrogen gas in the years 1906-1914; the so- • called “Lyman-Series”. This series can also be regarded as a row of frequencies and those frequencies can be transposed down to an audible area, where they can be used as musical scales. This was done during the Quantum Music project (a collaboration between artists and scientist from Serbia, Slovenia, Denmark and England supported by Creative Europe) together with physicist Klaus Mølmer (Aarhus University). • The scales have a wonderful structure going from big dissonant intervals to very melodic pentatonic and even modal middle section and ending up with a microtonal area. This structure gives the composer the possibility of writing music, which is tonal and atonal at the same time. The tone colour of the accordion gives in addition a perfect match to the quantum scales. • The concert has 3 movements: Slow, medium tempo and very fast – written in the spirit of melodies, rhythm and virtuosity. • Kim Helweg 2019 • FESTIVAL EUFONIJA - International Festival of Accordion and Chamber music, Novi Sad, Serbia May 23rd, 2019 • Soloist - Miloš Katanić • Conductor - Mikica Jevtić • Orchestra - Zrenjanin Chamber Orchestra • Official Website: https://miloskatanic.wordpress.com/
