In southeast Slovenia lies a Douglas C-47 Dakota in a field with an interesting history. Back in 1984 near the village Otok, it was placed as a monument in honor of the partisan airfields back in WWII called Piccadilly Hope. • On this very field back in 1944, one of the greatest prison escapes took place. In September 1944 about one hundred Partisan combatants liberated 80 British POWs, from New Zealand, Australia and England that were imprisoned in a POW camp - Stalag XVIII D in Maribor. Led by Partisans, fugitives travelled about 330 kilometers, in 14 days on foot from Ožbalt to • Semič. On the 18th of September 1944, they boarded Dakota C-47 aircraft. From the partisan airfield near Otok they were brought to the Allied base of Bari in Italy and safely returned to their homes. The escape has since been known as The Crow’s Flight. • THANK YOU FOR WATCHING.
