While using the Omnipod® 5 System it's important to understand the notifications and alarms. There are different types of notifications and alarms, and some may require action. Read the on-screen message carefully and be sure to take action if instructed. • Hazard Alarms: • • these are high priority alarms that indicate a serious problem has occurred and the Pod may need to be deactivated and removed • • respond to hazard alarms as soon as possible as some indicate that insulin delivery has stopped • • failing to respond to these can result in high blood glucose (or hyperglycemia) and diabetic ketoacidosis (also known as DKA) • Advisory Alarms: • • these are lower priority alarms that indicate that your attention is needed • • if these alarms are ignored, they can escalate to a hazard alarm • Watch the video for step-by-step instructions to learn how to respond to the different types of alerts. • Action Item Notifications: • • these are tasks that need your attention • • other notifications such as reminder notifications remind you about an action that you may want to perform — some are generated automatically, and others have settings you can control • Training is essential and must be completed before using the Omnipod 5 System.
