A medial branch nerve block is a procedure in which an anesthetic is injected near small medial nerves connected to a specific facet joint. Typically several levels of the spine are injected in one procedure. • If the patient experiences marked pain relief immediately after the injection, then the facet joint is determined to be the source of the patient's pain. • The procedure is primarily diagnostic, meaning that if the patient has the appropriate duration of pain relief after the medial branch nerve block, then they may be a candidate for a medial branch radiofrequency ablation for longer term pain relief. • If you are interested in an evaluation into the cause of your pain, or want to be evaluated for an LMBB procedure to help you manage your pain, please contact our pain management experts at The Spine and Pain Institute of New York. Our offices in Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Long Island offer multiple convenient locations for you to be evaluated. We would be happy to make an appointment for a consultation and provide additional information about other treatment options. • Learn more at http://www.spinepainny.com or email [email protected] for assistance.
