GaolNaofa.org Presents... • Where is Manannán? • Manannán Mac Lir, son of the sea, lives on the Isle of Man, in Ireland, and Scotland; in the Isles to the west, and everywhere the Gaelic languages are sung and spoken. • He has also been living on Binevenagh Mountain, Co. Derry, in and around a beautiful statue of him made by sculptor John Darren Sutton. On January 21st, 2015, this lovely piece of art was stolen by vandals claiming to be Christians. • Manannán has more in common with public images of Christ - like the famous statue in Rio de Janeiro - than with anything anti-Christian. This lovely artwork, commissioned by the town council, is not even intended to be a religious icon. • No matter what your spiritual beliefs, no matter your religion or lack of religion, Manannán is a part of our culture, our heritage, our history. • Manannán's statue means different things to different people. For those of us who still honour the old gods, this statue is a piece of religious art, and this desecration has hit us hard. • We are calling him back. • We are singing him home. • We invite you to sing with us: • A Mhanannáin, we call to you • Son of the Sea, we are calling you home. • By Land, Sea and Sky, we are searching for you • We, your people, are calling you home. • Bring light to the minds of those who are lying • Speak in their hearts so they bring forth the truth • A Mhanannáin, bring remorse to the vandals • Bring justice upon them, and bring forth the truth. • A Mhanannáin, son of the Sea • Raiser of mists, rider of waves • Come forth from hiding • Come forth from destruction • The wind is rising and calling your name. • A Mhanannáin, the people are calling • A Mhanannáin, calling your name • A Mhanannáin, A Mhanannáin, • Son of the Sea, we are calling you home. • Son of the Sea, we are calling you home. • C’raad ta’n Ree? • T’eh er’n cheet veih Flaunys. • Harrish y cheayn dys mullagh Varrool. • Where’s the King? • He has come from Flaunys. • Over the sea to the top o’ Barrool. • C’red t’eh jannoo? • T’eh jeeaghyn my heear. • Soie fo chay er mullagh Varrool. • What’s he doing? • He’s looking behind him. • Sitting under mist on top o’ Barrool. • Quoi ta’n Ree? • Ta’n Ree Mannanan. • Ta cashtal echey er mullagh Varrool. • Who’s the King? • The King’s Mannanan. • He has a castle on top o’ Barrool. • Sing with us and sing him home • Sláinte Mhaith • • CREDITS • Produced by: An Chomhairle Ghaol Naofa • Written by: Kathryn Price NicDhàna • Edited by: Annie Loughlin • Music: Lonesome Boatman by The Pikemen; Manannan by Skeeal • Prayer by: Kathryn Price NicDhàna • Photos by: Neil Moroney • Pasujoba • Ric Laf • Oisin Patenall • BBC News • Derry Now • Grey Geezer • Junior Oliviera • Eddie Espie • David Wright • Geoff McHugh • Kathryn Price NicDhàna • Neil Howard • Eoin McConnel • Fergal Kearney • Stephen Wallace for Hibernia Landscapes • Derry Journal • Brad Higham • Janek Kloss • James Qualtrough • William Allen • Andrew Hurley • Annie Loughlin • via Flickr Creative Commons and members of Bring back Manannan Mac Lir the Sea God Facebook group   / 630114243759074   • Have You Seen Me? meme by: Kathryn Price NicDhàna • Irish translation by: Caoimhín Ó Cadhla • Image by: Neil Moroney • Gaol Naofa would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to everyone for giving us permission to use their images. • All copyrights of individual images and songs remain with the original artists. • Video copyright ©2015 Gaol Naofa
