How fast are we moving through space

Stand up and stand still. Don’t move. You may not feel it, but you are actually traveling through space right now at a speed of 1.3 MILLION miles per hour. • As you stand on the Earth, which is in a constant rotation, you are moving about 1,040 mph. • Meanwhile, the Earth is moving in orbit around the Sun at about 66,600 mph. • The movement continues! • Our Sun and Solar System are moving around the Milky Way Galaxy at 448,000 mph. • But the Milky Way is moving too! Remember that we know all of the objects in space are expanding away from the singularity of the Big Bang at the beginning of the universe. • Our galaxy is moving at about 1.2 million miles per hour! Yes, just our galaxy alone is moving that fast! • Combined together we are moving through space at an estimated 1.3 million miles per hour! • We can’t feel this incredible speed for the same reason you can’t feel the constant speed of riding in a car, train, or airplane. Everyone else on the plane is moving at the same speed, so without looking outside it seems like everyone isn’t moving at all. The same goes for this unbelievable speed through space. Everything else is in relative motion, so we don’t even notice it! • SUBSCRIBE for more videos: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c... • CONNECT WITH JARED: • -- Instagram:   / jareddees   • -- X/Twitter: https://x.com/jareddees • -- LinkedIn:   / jareddees   • RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS • -- Jared's Weekly Newsletter with worksheets, videos, and stories: https://jareddees.com/newsletter/ • -- Stories for Kids: https://jareddees.com/kidstories/ • -- Get Jared's Books: https://jareddees.com/books/ • -- Jared's School Events and Workshops: https://jareddees.com/events/
