Fish lies, fish lore, urban legends. A lot of good advice floats around on the web. Unfortunately so does a lot of MIS-informaton that if followed could lead to disaster. Also, I just added a Marineland Emperor 400 Biowheel to the 60 gal. to help with water movement and oxygen. It's stuffed with Pinky floss, sponge filled bio-balls and the Emperor sponge/carbon inserts. • Plants: LIVE Anubias and Java Ferns. • Rocks: Wonder Stone (available on eBay). • Substrate: Caribsea eco-complete Cichlid Specific (shells/coral). • Heater: Eheim Jager 300watt submersible (taken out during summer months). • Lighting: 48 T-5 on a timer. • **135 Gallon Tank Breakdown** • Filtration: Fluval FX 6 filled with sponges, Fluval ceramic rings, Seachem Purigen, ChemiPure Green and a SunSun 704B filled with egg crate pond sponges, CNZ bio balls, Pinky Floss, ChemiPure Green and Seachem Purigen. 704B UV is used a few days week. • Heaters are two 300 watt Eheim Jagers connected to a controller from Jehmco.com, keeping things at 78 F degrees. • Lighting 2 36 Beamswork LEDs and there are two SunSun Powerheads in there (dual adjustable head 1600 gph/800 gph per impeller). • Substrate is Nature's Ocean Bio-Activ Live Aragonite black (looks more gray than black which is fine since it doesn't show every micro spec of detritus). • Background and rocks are from Universal Rocks (use Jay Wilson's 15% discount code at check out!), along with some lava rock. • *** • Food: Mostly Northfin cichlid pellets 1 - 3mm, kelp wafers and Krill Gold (all available from NorthfinUSA or SuperCichlids).
