#house #architecture #housedesign • Nestled amidst the rugged Steenberg Mountains, Chris Van Niekerk's Mountain House is a testament to architectural harmony. Its strategic positioning on a 4000m2 site straddles the boundary between the natural and the built, neither elevated nor buried. The design, born from an open brief, prioritizes a thoughtful response to the landscape over the constraints of accommodation.The house is divided into three distinct parts, each positioned in a U-shaped embrace to optimize privacy, solar orientation, and wind protection. The first structure, a modest guest bedroom and work area, emerges from the slope like an extended garden wall.
