England Swings is yet another of Roger Miller's songs. He both wrote and performed it and it was very popular on this side of 'The Pond'. Short and sweet as 'pop' records tended to be in the 60s thanks mainly to the record companies and radio stations who at that time would not play anything that was 'too long', i.e. anything over 2 and a half minutes. This is a catchy tune if a somewhat simplified look at England. (Bobbies on bicycles were becoming a rarity by then; they were more likely to be driving around in 'Panda cars'.) • England Swings • Roger Miller • D G D • England swings like a pendulum do • A7 • Bobbies on bicycles two by two • D G • Westminster Abbey, the tower of Big Ben • D A7 D • The rosy, red cheeks of the little children. • D G • Now if you huff and puff and you fin'lly save enough • D A7 • Money up to take your family on a trip across the sea • D G • Take a tip, before you take your trip • D • Let me tell ya where to go. (Go to England...) • Mama's old pyjamas and your papa's moustache • Fallin' out the window sill, frolic in the grass • Tryin' to mock the way they talk, fun, but all in vain • Gapin' at the dapper men with derby hats and cane. • • http://store.blurb.com/ebooks/p9f18a3...
