Opening Remarks: Suicide and BPD Treatment, Research, and Family Priorities • Dr. Axelrod is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. He leads the DBT and DBT-SUD Adult Intensive Outpatient Program tracks of Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, and he is a trainer/consultant with Behavioral Tech, the training group founded by Dr. Marsha Linehan. He received his doctorate from the University of Kentucky, completed a DBT-focused internship with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and did personality disorders postdoctoral training at Yale School of Medicine. He co-founded the annual NEA-BPD Yale Conferences, he founded the Connecticut DBT Network, and he is a member of Marsha Linehan’s annual DBT strategic planning research meeting. Dr. Axelrod regularly teaches seminars and workshops on DBT and his research and publications are in the areas of borderline personality disorder and DBT adaptations. • The 12th annual Yale NEA-BPD conference addressed advances in assessment and treatment of individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder who struggle with suicidality, as well as resources for providers working with suicidal individuals. The conference addressed assessment and interventions aimed at individuals and families, as well as consumer and family member perspectives. • • Our Yale NEA-BPD Conferences http://psychiatry.yale.edu/bpdconfere... are aimed at mental health professionals, training clinicians and researchers, as well as consumers and their family members. Presentations are designed to make cutting edge research and practice accessible to both professionals and lay audience members.
