So my buddy finally decided to buy a new gaming laptop, when I asked him what he planned on doing with his Alienware he said nothing. When I asked why he said it was because the thing was basically a brick. This laptop defiantly has its best days behind it, however that doesn’t mean it cant be great again. This laptop couldn’t run Overwatch on low presets at anything higher the 1-5fps but I knew the reason was due to its 7 year old thermal paste. This laptops thermal compound was hard as concrete and was doing nothing when it came to thermals. The labtop would thermal throttle while just downloading games, in game the CPU would run at 98 degrees celsius with a clock speed of .7ghz. so I took it apart and cleaned everything up and applied liquid metal. When I got it back together the temps were back to normal and we were able to play Overwatch on the same presets at a solid 55-65 FPS the transformation was absolutely amazing. So if you have an older laptop that seems to be worthless it might be worth your time and effort to get in there and correct the problems. This video is Liquid Metal Alienware Laptop Cooling – 1FPS to 60FPS How Cooling Can Bring Your Gaming Laptop Back To Life! Although there is some risk to liquid metaling its worth it when the alternative is not having a gaming laptop. If you really don’t wanna use liquid metal use normal thermal paste as that will go a long way as well. • If you want a good guide on how to take apart an Alienware M14xR1 or R2 check this video out for more details • • Alienware M14x R1/R2: Disassembly • Make sure to subscribe as the revitalization of this laptop is not over, next I will be adding 16g of ram and upgrading the super slow hard drive to a solid state.
