Sergey Rachmaninoff was on vacation in Italy. One evening, street musicians approached the holiday villa where he stayed. An Italian with a cane, his wife, child and a wonderful donkey. They were carrying an old mechanical piano as a load, which in its structure resembled a large street organ. A woman could easily start the piano, and then it began to play amazingly colorful music. The man sang and danced well, the performance turned out to be truly magical. • The Italian polka motif was firmly remembered by Rachmaninov who had an amazing musical memory, upon his arrival in his homeland, the first thing he did was writing down the melody he heard.
