Galaxy Formation A Sonification

Galaxies forming in a small test cosmological simulation. Red, green and blue colours indicate hot, warm and cool gas, respectively, while stars are coloured white. Sonification tells us about how stars are forming and gas heating in these models: Harp notes are plucked when groups of stars are formed in the centers of galaxies. The pitch tells us what these stars are made of, from almost completely Hydrogen and Helium (low notes) to high levels of heavy elements (high notes). A 'whooshing' sound tells us about the heating of the gas - getting more intense when the gas is heating up quickly. • Credit James Trayford (@trayford.bsky.social, https://bsky.app/profile/trayford.bsk... ), John Helly the COLIBRE collaboration
