Every caregiver needs a break. I’m the luckiest spousal caregiver there is… I have support, I have love, and I have a little escape area in my house. In this video I touch on some topics that have been on my mind: • Keeping Heather at home versus placing her in a long term care facility • Am I keeping her home with me out of selfish needs? • What is Heather’s diagnosis? • Community support • Yes! I now have a recording of the Alzheimer’s Nova Scotia annual conference presentation! I’ll share it very soon. • #YANA! • Heather first started showing the very first signs of memory issues in early 2021, and in October 2021 she received the diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia, which is a form of frontotemporal dementia. Her cognitive decline since then has been rapid and steady, as frequently happens with early onset dementia. • Please see our website at http://fridayswithheather.com My sister (and author) Hetty van Gurp has written a book called Fridays With Heather - 55 Art Projects For Dementia Care, which is available on the website. A limited number of the books will be inscribed by me with a heartfelt message of support. • Scammer alert: If you receive a direct message offering input or counselling or anything else, it’s not me. It’s a scammer, so please report them to YouTube. I will never reach out to you privately
