El Cóndor Pasa is originally an orchestral musical piece composed in 1913 by Daniel Alomía Robles, a Peruvian composer, and is based on traditional Andean music. • In 1965, during his visit to Paris, Paul Simon heard a rendition of the melody performed by the band Los Incas. Simon was really impressed by the music, so he asked the band if he could use it in his own project. But, there was a misunderstanding about who actually wrote the song. • Jorge Milchberg, the director of Los Incas, mistakenly claimed that the song was a traditional Peruvian composition. This misinformation led to complications later on. • In 1970, Simon Garfunkel, the American folk rock duo, released their version of the song titled El Cóndor Pasa (If I Could) on their final studio album, Bridge Over Troubled Water . They used the instrumental track by Los Incas as the foundation and Paul Simon added English lyrics to the arrangement. • Following the song's release, Armando Robles Godoy, the son of Daniel Alomía Robles, successfully filed a copyright lawsuit against Paul Simon. He claimed that the song had been composed by his father, Daniel Alomía Robles, and that the proper credits were not given. The court case was almost friendly as Simon was known for respecting other cultures and had obtained the song's permission based on incorrect information. • For the Simon Garfunkel version of the song, the updated songwriting credits now include all three individuals: Daniel Alomía Robles, Jorge Milchberg, and Paul Simon. Simon is credited solely as the author of the English lyrics. • Full tab available for free view from the link below: • https://musescore.com/user/31687724/s... • Standard tuning • (I like to play this song with capo on 3rd–5th fret)
