It's the idea of taking the 6/8 time signature and dividing it up into its common multiples of 2 and 3. • If you feel the time as 3 groups of 2 then you'll get a 6/8 which tends to have a little more frantic and Ahead of the Beat vibe... But if you feel the time as 2 groups of 3 you'll get that laid-back shuffle vibe. • Depending on how the band feels it... this can make or break the groove. you don't wanna be feeling a shuffle when the rest of the band is playing in straight 6/8... even though it works mathematically.
