A classic mid-tempo track from 1985 still sounding fresh with it’s silky male vocals and synth sounds. A club favourite with many DJs and radio jocks and still considered by many as one of the group’s finest tracks. • Midnight Star was formed in 1976 by Kentucky State University graduates Reggie Calloway (trumpeter), Belinda Lipscomb (vocalist), Melvin Gentry (guitarist/drummer/vocalist), Kenneth Gant (bassist), Bill Simmons (multi-instrumentalist), Bo Watson (keyboard player/vocalist) and Jeff Cooper (guitarist/keyboardist). • The group were signed to SOLAR records in 1978 and released 3 albums ('The Beginning', 'Standing Together', 'Victory') before finally finding success with their breakout album in 1983 entitled 'No Parking (On the Dance Floor)' which featured a mix of R B and funk with vocoder vocals producing hit songs Freak-A-Zoid , Wet My Whistle , and the album’s title track “No Parking (On the Dance Floor)”. • The following year the group released their next album called 'Planetary Invasion' which gave them their first and only no. 1 US R B chart success song called Operator along with Scientific Love and the timeless classic “Curious”. • Hot on the heels of their album 'Planetary Invasion' the group produced their sixth album in 1986 called 'Headlines' giving them their biggest success in the UK charts with Midas Touch , which made no. 8, and Headlines at no. 16 hit in the same year and later the track “Engine No. 9” • The group would go on to produce 2 more albums with little success compared to previous releases. Although the group stopped touring and producing music, they never officially broke up. • The group would later reunite in 2000 with many of the original members (including all of the singers) and would release their album entitled '15th Avenue' 2 years later. • Since then the group has toured internationally and their music is still played in clubs and on the radio. • ‘Curious’ has since inspired and been sampled by artists such as LSG (Levert, Sweat Gill) and most recently in 2020 by Youngbumpy. • Please share and like our videos and Youtube page and join us on our Facebook page on: • / djfunkmazterj
