RTI is not a special education referral process. • Three main components in the RTI process • 1 Instruction: It needs to be research-based, high-quality instruction provided in the general education classroom. • 2 Data: Based on common assessment (administrating the same assessment to all of the children in the district.) Data needs to be timely and accurate, so results need to be available soon after administrating the common assessment. • 3 Interventions: high quality, implemented using a multi-tier level of interventions. • Multi-tier Level of Interventions Pyramid: • .Tier 1 Supplemental Interventions: supplemental instruction is given to the children in the school day within the general education classroom. • .Tier 2 Targeted Interventions: These are increasingly intensive interventions to match the student's needs, given in a small group setting. • .Tier 3 Individualized Intensive Interventions. • • Sometimes after all of the support given in all of these tiers students still do not achieve the progress that was expected, and they are referred for a special education assessment. • RTI District Implementation Challenges: • .Time: finding the time within the regular day or the regular schedule to provide the services. • .Resources: districts have budget restrictions. • .Data: gathering, organizing, and analyzing the data with fidelity is difficult. • .Consistency: not only here in the collection of the data, but also in the implementation of the interventions. • Overcoming RTI Implementation Challenges: • Develop a comprehensive RTI process to identify and support students, teachers, and schools. • Scheduled data collection and data analysis. • Develop functional based training for the district, school, and the teachers so that everybody within the process knows exactly what you do when a student, classroom, or a school are in trouble before they fail. • Determine the multi-tier levels of intervention Pyramid to be used. • Promote RTI synergy by putting all in the same page. • Districts: provide the resources and the systems for data collection and data analysis. • Schools: provide high-quality interventions, high-quality data collection, and training for both teachers and parents. • Teachers: provide high quality instruction and data collection with accuracy inconsistency. • Summary: • What RTI is and what it isn't. • Multi-tier Level of Interventions Pyramid. • The four most common challenges of implementing an RTI process. • Developing a comprehensive RTI process. • RTI Synergy. • Read the blog post http://blog.ab-evaluations.com/2013/0... • Download a copy of this presentation: http://ab-evaluations.com/Downloads/R... • To receive more videos like this, subscribe to our YouTube channel.
