The new XC60 clearly follows the lead of Volvo’s flagship XC90, featuring a beautiful and comfortable interior, offering a magnificent upgraded audio system, and protecting occupants with an extensive array of safety and driver-assistance tech. Our reviewer appreciated that the XC60’s City Safety system proved effective but didn’t take over actually driving the car when he could avoid hazards himself. • The XC60’s powertrains all feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and all-wheel drive, though a front-wheel-drive XC60 is in the works. That engine produces 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque in T5 trims, 316 hp and 295 lb-ft in T6 trims thanks to an added supercharger, and 400 hp and 472 lb-ft in T8 trims, which add an 87-hp electric motor to boost efficiency. Unfortunately, our reviewer found the plug-in’s mileage disappointing and regenerative brakes difficult to modulate.
