This video shows the different components of dams. Dam is made up of different elements or parts. In this video each part explained in detail with diagram. The following are the parts of the dams. • 1. Crest • Top surface of the dam, it provides the walk way or road way over the dam. • 2. Parapet Walls • Low protective walls provided on each side of the crest • 3. Gallery • small tunnel passage way provided inside the dam. • 4. Heel • Portion of the dam in contact with the ground on upstream face of the dam • 5. Toe • Portion of the dam in contact with the ground on downstream face of the dam • 6. Spill way • provided near the top of the dam to remove surplus or excessive water from the reservoir • 7. Free board • The distance between the top of the dam and the normal water level • 8.
