Oh I am so excited to be able top share this fungus with you all! It is called the #LatticeStinkhorn (#ClathrusRuber). Other common names being #BasketStinkhorn or #RedCage. • This fungus grows on decaying wood (#Saprotroph) and can be commonly found in mulch beds. If you ever find one that isn’t open yet, it will look like a miniature soccer ball. Then in time that white casing will burst open revealing the red lattice interior that will look like something out of a horror film. Especially once you get close enough too see the brown oozy #gleba material, which will then get you close enough to smell the rotting corpse odor! • Total horror film fungus! Which if you haven’t noticed, the flies and millipedes love it! And now you can probably guess how this fungus spreads its spores. Quite fascinating I must say. This mushroom will forever be in the books as one of my top favorite looking fungi! • This mushroom is not edible! Plus would you want to eat something that smells like death? • Like the tunes?
