PLEASE SHARE: • CORRECTION: Det. Adam Turner Tel: 419-347-2242 • In May of 1968 the skeletal remains of an unknown individual were uncovered in Preble County, Ohio just outside the town of Eaton. Local authorities were unable to identify the individual nor were they able to ascertain how he/she had died. Eventually the remains were interred in a paupers grave. • Fast-Forward 51 years. In August of 2019 the remains of the Preble County John Doe were exhumed for DNA extraction. It was hoped that modern technology would finally provide the unfortunate individual with a name and an identity. It was believed, at the time, that the remains could possibly be those of Mary Jane Vangilder, a West Virginian who disappeared from Plymouth, Ohio in 1945. • The process was slow and meticulous but ultimately proved successful...and more than a little surprising. As it turned out, the Jane Doe...affectionately known as Penny ...was not a JANE...but rather a JOHN Doe. More specifically, the remains were those of Albert Allen Frost who vanished from nearby Hamilton, Ohio sometime in the early 1960s. To this day no one knows just how Albert got to Preble County or how he died.
