What is exactly tennis elbow? And which are its symptoms and the external factors that can cause it? • Tennis elbow occurs when there is overuse and repetitive stress on the tendons of your forearm muscles. Despite its name, tennis elbow is not exclusive to tennis players; anyone engaging in repetitive gripping and wrist extension activities can be susceptible. • The Symptoms • Patients with tennis elbow often experience pain and tenderness on the outer side of the elbow, which can radiate down the forearm. Symptoms may include weakened grip strength, difficulty with everyday activities such as lifting and carrying, and also discomfort when shaking hands. The pain is typically aggravated by gripping objects, turning a doorknob, or performing activities involving wrist movement. • The External Factors • Tennis-related factors that could contribute to the development of tennis elbow include improper stroke techniques, using a racquet with a grip size that is too small or too large, or string tension that is too high. Beyond tennis, occupations or hobbies involving repetitive gripping, such as typing, painting, or carpentry, can also contribute to the onset of tennis elbow. • Try these 2 exercises and let us know how you go! • Learn more at https://jwphysicalhealth.com.au/
