Callicoon Center: Tim Steele Design Container House in NY. In this video, we bring you The Callicoon Center; an amazing family house by Tim Steele Design built with four shipping containers in New York, United States. This one story house is made of (4) 40' High cube shipping containers creating a total of 1,760 sq ft. The house was positioned at the high point of the site capitalizing on the western views and oriented with south facing roofs to incorporate future solar panels. The containers sit on a strip concrete foundation to elevate the containers away from moisture. The containers were fabricated offsite, delivered and craned onto the foundations. Four 40′ High Cube containers were separated 2 and 2 with double volume space in the middle built of conventional wood framing and a truss-roof supported by the containers. The containers and all roofs were insulated on the inside for thermal comfort and temperature regulation. The house is fitted with a proper roof just like a conventional house above the container to prevent water from pooling on top of the roof causing corrosion and rusting. The attic space above the entrance and the dining opening is fitted with frosted glazing to let in more daylighting. The remaining attic space above the containers is covered with plaster board in respect to the profile of the containers below.
