Justin Fruechte, Alfalfa and Forage Specialist at Millborn Seeds, explains how to thicken your Alfalfa stand. • After the first cutting of Alfalfa comes off in June, Justin receives a lot calls asking how to thicken up stands. • In this particular situation, this field didn't yield as nicely as the landowner thought. So Millborn suggested drilling 5 lbs of Teffgrass directly into the thin stand of Alfalfa. Teffgrass is a warm season annual that re-grows well to produce quality hay. It's a fine bladed, thin stemmed grass that cures well. • As you can see, the Teffgrass is establishing well which will help boost the yield of production for the second and third cutting of Alfalfa without affecting the overall quality of hay. • Teffgrass is a great option if you have a thin stand of Alfalfa during mid Summer and want to thicken it up while maintaining quality and bump yields. • For more information, http://www.millbornseeds.com/alfalfa.htm
