String Quartet No. 8 in C minor is a chamber music work composed in 1960 by the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich. It is one of his best known and most played works, of which certain themes were reused by the composer in other works. • Since 1959, Shostakovich suffered from polio, so he went to the outskirts of Dresden, officially to write the music for the film Five Days and Five Nights, unofficially for treatment. Impressed by the sight of the devastated city, he dedicated the quartet (written in three days from July 12 to 14, 1960) to the victims of war and fascism , among whom, according to his daughter Galina. • Shostakovich is credited with the following quotes referring to that quartet: • «I told myself that after my death no one would compose a work in memory of me. So I decided to compose one myself… »2 • «The main theme of this quartet is the notes D. Es. C. H., that is, my initials, and I cited some of my works. A small anthology! » • 2nd Movement (Alegro Molto) 0:00 • 3rd Movement (Allegretto) 2:54 • _______________________________________________________________ • Made with Embers 🔥 • https://embers.app/ • MIDI File 🎹 • https://musescore.com/user/28882084/s... • Interpretation 🎻 • Borodin Quartet
