High Functioning Autism Why YOU Feel Guilty

Why YOU feel guilty for having lower support needs! • https://www.levelupautism.net/register • Let’s be real - the term high functioning autism isn’t used any more and for good reason as it labels people differently instead of just Autism Spectrum Disorder, as autism is a spectrum. • But the support needs of people on the spectrum do differ form person to person. There are people with lower support needs that were called high functioning and there are people with high support needs that were low functioning. • When I see kids and people with high support needs autism, I cant help but thing how difficult it must be for them as my form of autism allows me to have a full verbal ability and large vocabulary. • I also feel almost guilty that I have a diagnosis of autism but I don’t need the same level of support needs as some people and it almost makes me a bit sad and that people will almost judge me for having lower support needs. • This is a difficult thing to talk and think about, as it can be a negative, when telling people you are autistic, they think about people with higher support needs and compare you and instantly think you are lying because you can operate at a higher level of executive function • I’d love to know your thoughts on this if you are an autistic person.
