This is a rare find in excellent original condition! It’s an Omega driver’s Chronostop Geneve date with gorgeous burgundy/red dial! • The Chronostop came in a few different models. You’ve got the big size Seamaster chronostops with rotating bezel, the De Marchi jumbo’s, and then the simple Geneve’s. These last ones came in two versions; the most common was a regular one, with pusher and crown at 2 and 4, but there was also a rarer driver’s version, of which the dial has been turned 45° so that the 12h sits where the 3 would normally sit. This was made to wear under the wrist for driving, so it’s visible when your hands are on the steering wheel. • Unlike conventional chronographs that record seconds, minutes and hours with several subdials, the Chronostop was designed for short interval timing (less than one minute). It was originally released in 1966 and meant to be part of the Seamaster collection, but since 1967 it was transferred to the Geneve collection. • The Chronostop came with two different movements: the cal 865 (nodate) and cal 920 (with date). These were only used in the Chronostop, and both based on the Speedmaster movement (basically a simpler version of the Speedmaster). These share quite a few parts with the Speedmaster cal 861 too. • The cal 865 movement was introduced in 1965 and produced in 124,000 pieces, while the cal 920 was launched in 1968 with a total run of 61,000 watches. • The Chronostop was chosen as official timer for the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico. These Olympic watches used the cal 920 movement and came in olive green, red, white, and blue (the colors of the Olympic Rings). • Other than the Olympics, this also had its use in other fields. Apart from (drag) racing and car times, other people also found a good use for this specialized stopwatch: doctors and nurses used the timer to take patients’ pulses, and it came in handy as well for engineers and technicians working with production lines. • Enough history, let’s get back to the watch! Of all Chronostop Geneve executions, the red dial driver’s watch is by far one of the most difficult to find. This is a fully original burgundy/red racing dial, which has aged gorgeously, with a gentle eggplant color hue. It’s in excellent condition, with light patina. The steel case is in excellent condition, with light signs of use. It has been gently refinished in the past. Both the crown and crystal are Omega signed. The pusher is original as well. • The watch is a ref 146.010, powered by a manual wind cal 920 from 1969. Service history unknown, but it works perfectly and keeps great time. It measures 35mm diameter without crown, and 39mm from lug to lug. It comes on a nice steel Omega beads of rice bracelet. The bracelet is original Omega, but not original to this watch. • If you’re looking to make this more how it would’ve come: I do have a few original Omega mesh bracelets suitable for this watch. I also have an original Omega Mexico Olympics box, in which these Chronostops would’ve come originally. These are NOT part of this listing, but can be added on top if desired. •   / kabawatch   •
