The tune was the B Side of I Want Some Of That which failed to make the Billboard Singles Charts. Surfin' Bird was a Novelty hit song that peaked at #4 on Billboard in early 1964. The song is a combination of 2 songs by an R B group, The Rivingtons from Los Angeles, California, called The Bird's the Word and Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow . The drummer for The Trashmen, Steve Wahrer, sang Surfin' Bird , which has been called Bird is the Word song, which remained on the Charts for 13 weeks. They hit the Top 40 with their next song Bird Dance Beat which climbed up to #30 early in 1964.
