It is often called Usagi Jima (ウサギ島, Rabbit Island ) because of the countless bunny rabbits that roam the island. Almost all of them are tame and will approach humans when offered a treat! No one knows exactly how they got there, but it’s believed they were released on the island after World War II when the island was turned in to a park.
