Geographic Tongue A Clinical Review

On this installment of my Clinical Review Series, I cover my approach to geographic tongue (benign migratory glossitis). I discuss geographic tongue, which is often considered a variation of normal. For most, this condition is asymptomatic but some patients have symptoms with certain foods like citrus foods or vinaigrettes. I discuss my treatment protocol for those with symptoms. • I have two main goals for my Clinical Review Series: The first is patient education. I hope that by creating diagnosis-specific videos, patients will have a reliable, evidence-based information so they don’t feel the pressure to remember everything during an appointment. These videos are not meant to be comprehensive reviews of all presentations and epidemiologic and histology findings but rather focus on the clinical implications of these conditions. My second goal is to disseminate knowledge to providers about how one oral pathologist, me, handles certain common entities. These videos will only discuss MY PERSONAL approach to these entities.
