It is believed to have been built by the famous Sage Vyasa who observed penance in a nearby hill known as “Govinda Malai” just behind the temple. The Kollengode Palace and yearly festivals are also significant attractions in Kollengode. The Kollengode Kovilakam is a prominent place in Kollengode, which is a testimony to the events of history at Kollengode.
