Our ask the contractor question of the day, is how do you change a halogen light bulb. The key thing to changing a halogen light bulb is not touch the bulb with your fingers. What I have here is—this is a 12-volt light bulb that you may find in your house in a small cam light or track light fixture or something like that. Now, it's okay, you can touch the outside of this light bulb. But if you look inside here there's the actual light bulb. This side all here is just the reflector. So you don't want to touch any part of that inner light bulb in this thing. The oil from your fingers will get on there and it just causes a place for the bulb to heat up. These burn extremely hot anyhow. That little bit of oil on there just makes one spot even hotter and will shorten the life of the light bulb. • It's the same way with these. This is more of an outdoor fixture. It's a Quartz halogen, same thing. You touch that center glass part with your fingers it's just going to cause a big hot spot and burn the lamp out; either right away or within a few hours. When you buy these things, a lot of times they will give you a small piece of foam and you can use that to kind of pinch the bulb in and fit it into the fixture that way; or get you a pair of gloves to use to put if you're going to change the light bulbs.
