Indian-born Canadian singer, rapper, and record producer AP Dhillon opened up about his journey from obscurity to global stardom in an interview with Anupama Chopra of Film Companion. • In the conversation held on Monday (August 21), Dhillon candidly discussed his family's views on pursuing art as a career, the power of music to unite people, and the challenges he faced as an immigrant striving to establish himself in the Western world. • AP Dhillon shared his unique perspective on his meteoric rise in the music industry and the personal experiences that have shaped his artistic vision. • The Brown Munde singer opened up about the challenges he faced early on in his career when he felt like no one wanted to collaborate with him: When nobody wants to work with you, now you gotta learn everything on your own. He revealed that this prompted him to become a self-sufficient artist, taking charge of his own growth and learning. • Reflecting on his family's expectations, Dhillon said, My family, like, they don't really care about...if anybody wants to be an artist or anything like that. They're like, 'Okay, you go to school, get a good education, and find a decent job,' right? • However, he emphasised the importance of following one's passion, asserting that sometimes you have to pursue what you love. • Dhillon started in 2019 with single track Fake with Shinda Kahlon under their own independent label Run-Up Records. Later he appeared on the video, and credited as producer, of the track Faraar by Gurinder Gill and Shinda Kahlon. • In 2020, his single Deadly with producer Gminxr, entered UK Asian chart published by the Official Charts Company, and peaked at number 11.[9] Also, the song entered top 5 on UK Punjabi chart.[10] His next single Droptop with Gurinder Gill also appeared on both UK Asian and UK Punjabi chart.[10] In June 2020, he collaborated with Gurinder Gill and Manni Sandhu for single Majhail , which topped both the UK Asian and Punjabi chart, and became their best performance till date.[9][10] In July 2020, he and Gurinder Gill appeared in Excuses by Intense, which peaked at number 3 on UK Asian and topped the UK Punjabi chart.[9][11] In September 2020, he released Brown Munde with Gurinder Gill, Gminxr, and Shinda Kahlon. Nav, Sidhu Moose Wala, Money Musik, Anmol Dalwani and Steel Banglez appeared in its music video.[12] The song entered Apple Music chart in Canada.[13] The song debuted at number one on the UK Asian chart, became his second number one on the chart. • In 2020, AP Dhillon released his first Collaborative EP, Not by Chance with Gurinder Gill and Money Musik.
