The price ranges from $19.99 to $49.95 and some of them plug in while others are battery operated. • Here's what I'd consider to be the pros and cons of each device • Marpac Dohm-DS All-Natural Sound Machine • On the positive this device is completely natural white noise created by a fan. Unfortunately this also makes for a very quiet device compared to others that I tested. I've also found the button to be a little tricky on it. It does not turn on smoothly. • LectroFan High Fidelity White Noise Machine • This is my favorite from a noise standpoint because my baby likes it very noisy to fall asleep. The downside is that you cannot use batteries for it. It's compact and has a good range of sound on it. • SwaddleMe Slumber Buddies Soother, Grey Elephant • This is a jack of all trades device. It's a toy and light and sound machine. It's the quietest of all the devices I tested but if you have a baby that just wanted a soother this could be a good fit. • Baby Shusher • I love the sounds of this device and so does my baby. The negatives are that it can only be played for up to 30 minutes and when the battery gets low the sound gets distorted. I found the screw to change the battery to be a bad design because if you tighten it too much it throws off the device. It's a good sound but limited in some ways. • HoMedics SS-2000 Sound Spa Relaxation Sound Machine • Technically this is marketed as a spa machine but my buddy swears by it for his kid. He said he loves the portability of it. I think the price tag is pretty good as well.
